Our home for six or so years, the most populous State in Australia , with surf, mountains and desert – a place we will be sad to say goodbye too. We realized that we wouldn't be able to visit it all (NSW is not far off the size of the UK ) and during the time we have lived here, we have had a fair go at getting a taste for it all. The journey to Broken Hill and into country NSW would have to wait for another trip.
We headed first inland to the Alpine Way in January, en route to Melbourne. Usually we head to the Alps for snow but in Summer the weather is hot and the Snowy Mountains attract: walkers; mountain bikers; anglers; and campers. Mount Kosciuszko is Australia 's highest peak however you can catch a chair lift half way up the mountain and a 60 minute walk along a wooden board walk takes you to the top. It is nonetheless hard not to enjoy the Snowy Mountains, as Australia is a considerably flat country. And although we only spent about 4 or 5 days travelling through them, we really enjoyed the change to the coastal environment we have become so familiar with.
We reached the New South Wales south coast on return from Melbourne at the beginning of April. Not much of the NSW coast line is new to us and we have enjoyed spending the time cruising through some of our favourite holiday desinations, without the usual holiday crowds. The surf has been reliable and regular, with a number of large swells being too big to surf!! The weather has been fabulous and we have had a chance to catch up with many friends before we leave our familiar surroundings.
As we continue north towards Queensland, we will certrainly take away some wonderful memories from the many fun times we have spent travelling this special piece of Australia.
