Our home is a Mazda T3500, 1988 converted bus. (Imagine a 20 seater mini bus). Before we hit the road we had a turbo fitted to it, so it can carry all 4.5 tons (van and our gear!) at a reasonable speed. We currently travel at an average speed of 85kmph (53mph). It has traveled 351,000kms and we intend to add at least another 30,000km.
The interior of the bus is decked out in Queensland red cedar wood and has modern appliances such as: a fridge; double gas stove; sink; television; stereo; surround sound; and loads of storage space. The double bed converts into a very comfortable day bed, which is perfect for the afternoon ‘nana nap'. We chose not to have an interior shower and toilet (too much yucky cleaning involved) however we have an external shower and a porta potti, which is yet to be used!!!
We had the roof rack custom made and this carries: 3 surfboards; 2 windsurf boards; a roof box, carrying 5 sails and all the rest of Lindsay's windsurfing paraphernalia; 2 surf fishing rods and a boogie board.
We are also carrying: 2 sets of golf clubs; a surf kite and accompanying board; a fly fishing rod and another spinning rod; a Cobb Cooker – which is like a mini Webber (BBQ) and has revolutionalised our cooking capabilities. We also carry an assortment of games (scrabble of course); CD's; DVD's and a mini library including the biggest dictionary in the world!! And then all of our personal possessions and clothes etc etc. This is why we travel at 85kmph!!
We both absolutely love La Dolce Vita and there is nothing we would change about her – our first home is almost perfect – giving us a life of luxury and pleasure!!!
